(1988 – 1995)
Meaning Bandname: Ricky and Dikkie are watching Miami Vice in Simplon when Don Johnson talks about “some kind of moonlizard”. At that moment both were thinking: “Hey!”.
Bio: Formed out of The Pig Rhythms, a band that rehearsed three times and played on 15th January 1988 on a benefit in Simplon to help the Rhythm Pigs get home when they got robbed on tour the year before. In march 1988 they do the support act for Soul Asylum as the Asylum Souls and when Adam replaced Gert as a drummer in January 1989, they use the name Moonlizards.
In 1990 they record the first album and it directly brings them on national radio and do an European tour with The Spermbirds from Germany.
With the financial support of Vera, in September 1992 they record their 2nd album with British producer Harvey Birrell (Therapy?, Bomb The Bass) in London’s Southern Studios. Back in the Netherlands, these recordings are remixed at the Sound Enterprise Studio in Weesp by Frans Hagenaars (Betty Serveert).
In 1999 Tom Holenborg (Junkie XL) gets them to do a reunion on which they play 2 new songs. In the following years there are more reunionshows.
