(2000 – 2007)

Meaning bandname: There was a big conflict, say an eternal quarrel, about the bandname. Sjakie was whining about the idea of Niels for taking Soulscars and Niels replied: ”stop sitting to mindfuck”, so eventually it became Mindføk, with actually a dash through the O, like Ø.

History: Started in december 2000. First rehearsals at Manfred (Oosterhogebrug) and Popdijkemaweg, but later in the good ole Viadukt. Niels and Jop really started the whole thing and asked 3 drummers at the same time. From those three, Bas started playing bass, Mika started playing guitar and animal Sjakie stayed on drums plus ofcourse Niels on vocals. Job couldn’t play anything else than guitar and solos which also contributed to the mindføking. With the inspiring leadership of songwriter Niels, 10 punk rock hits were made in no-time and presented in a number of steamy & sweaty concerts.
It all seemed too good to be true and alas, it was: not long after the formation Niels announced his defeat in his battle against a tumor (7 brain surgeries couldn’t save him…). At that time, Niels’ greatest wish in music was to release an album and so Mindføk made it their number 1 priority to get it done. With great support and cooperation of  foundation “Danielle” (a fund that financially supports dying people to fulfill their last wishes) a CD was recorded in studio SAS. The 12 crusty punkcore songs filled with lyrics about personal grief and society’s mishaps, laced with a hint of blues. The release of self-titled CD was a fact.
After Niels’ death (20.04.2002), Bas, Sjakie, Jop and Mika faced a tough decision: to continue or not and if so, with or without a new vocalist. In the spirit of Niels they decided to continue with the band and do the vocals themselves.
With great enthousiasm 5 new songs were recorded at Villa Friekens in Amsterdam by punk-producer-mixer-engineer and mastermind D-jan. As the new CD was released, successful gigs were done throughout Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Terschelling. In this way, life went on happily for some time for Mindføk until singer/guitarist Mika knocked his hand on a table at home. Not that terrible, were it not that he did it at night falling out of a 2 meters high up bed! So he broke his wrist….. At that time, Mindføk had a number of gigs lined up in the near future, so they thought to ask band cat owner (Arnold!!!) and former Fleas And Lice & PCP numbnuts Oene to do Mika’s guitars. The 3rd CD was recorded live during an extremely energetic gig in Krommenie where everybody went crazy and the roof was blown off.
So a new problem arose after Mika’s return on guitars, because Oene simply refused to leave the band and keeps showing up at practices and even gigs… From this point on the band decided all was well and Mindføk had 3 guitarplayers for a while until Job leaves the band.

Lyrics: All (for a few exceptions) written by Niels and deal with his frustrations of his illness and the things he loved (”basket mopeds” and Marloes). New lyrics deal with beer, and politics ofcourse.
