(1985 – 1989)

Meaning Bandname: A song by Poison Idea.

Bio: From Haarlem. Pure Hate is founded in August 1985 by Rob and Paul after the splitup of the Squits and was a pure hardcore band with clear opinions that didn’t always align with standard punk anthems. Pure Hate had a text against anarchy with the song “look before you leap”, so they went straight against the punk stream. Pure Hate believed that there was much to criticize about governments, where there is power there is abuse of power, but you don’t improve the world by abolishing democracy. The misery is in the people, not in the system.

A number of Pure Hate songs had evolved from songs by the Squits, but played much faster and with new lyrics. For example, “Terrorist” was a remake of “CSG” by the Squits. Rob Aris wrote almost all the songs. Just before quitting, Pure Hate had recorded all the songs, which were not on the EP, on tape. That was enough songs for a fulllength album. Rob, the drummer, would mix the tape and then all members would get a copy. Again, unfortunately, something went wrong and the tape was never finished.
