(Arnhem/Velp, 1982-1983)
Meaning Bandname: Tim went through a Dutch-Norwegian dictionary and flicked through the pages. His finger stuck on ‘Flötelapper’, a sour cream pancake. During this era, first names coupled to bandnames was very populair (Tedje en de Flikkers, Anne Frank en de Razzia’s, Jezus and the Gospelfuckers) so he added the Norwegian name Knut to the Flötelapperz.
Bio: The band was started at Thomas Kempis College in Arnhem by a bunch of 15 and 16 year olds. Apart from drummer Martijn none had ever played an instrument or really sung in a band. First rehearsels were in the Jacobiberg Youthcenter/Arnhem, a short distance from school. Guitar, bass and vocals all went through one amp.
First gig in the Dojo of Oskar’s dad lasted about 5 seconds until basslayer Tim collapsed on his back over the drumkit after drinking himself into a coma. Both gigs at schools ended in chaos. Last gig was at the Arnhem cityhall for the 750th anniversary of the town. But there was no band so drummer Martijn picked up a ‘guitarplayer’and a ‘singer’ at a local coffeeshop two hours before the gig. As you may understand, apart from a few tries to play Ramones and Joy Division covers, the whole thing was pure chaos.
