(Zaandam, 1979 – 1980)
Meaning Bandname: Hema is a rather popular mall for regular people.
Bio: Formed after seeing The Ex in Amsterdam on 15 October 1979. Ewoud and Marijke already had plans to start a band called De Kapotjes [The Condoms] with anti-church lyrics. The sarcastic but humorous lyrics of De Hema’s deal with boredom, rightwing, chaos, silence, IBM… The first concert is at a party of The Ex members. Change their name in Biologisch Dynamisch Trioo Brandnetel (a second o in Trio because they are 4) and do mostly improvisation.
