(Utrecht, 1979 – 1984)

Meaning Bandname: Because they can’t make up a name (Niks = nothing), they make it Nixe (= a wordplay of nothing). Later it appears that a Nixe is an evil water spirit in German mythology.

Bio: From Utrecht. Start in February 1979 by Nikki and Ilva in accordance with The Lullabies from the same city. First in their heads and on the walls and toiletdoors of bars and clubs but soon Marian is asked to play guitar because she can play “The House of the Rising Sun” and “Smoke on the Water”. Finding a drummer proves more difficult. Simone is spotted near het Wed busstop in Utrecht a couple of weeks before the first concert in De Baas on 14 June 1979. They ask her to come drumming even though she has no experience. There is still time for a practise in the ACU. Soon rehearsals are done in a cellar at the Oude Gracht but there’s too much mold. They move to a boyscout cottage with funny mushroom chairs in a park in Utrecht. But 2 times a week doing a concert was enough for rehearsing. Nikki’s mother writes the lyrics for songs as “Scientist” and “I Love The Cops”.
