Meaning Bandname: The name was made up by founder Richard (UPS), who was known by the nickname “Rups”. In Dutch, this is a play on words. Rupsband refers to the tracks found on tank wheels, while simultaneously meaning “the band of Rups”.

Bio: Rupsband was the creative brainchild of Richard UPS. After his previous band fell apart, he picked things up again a few years later with an acoustic solo project (Acoustic Front). Many of the ideas that emerged over time were actually better suited for a full band. Attempts to assemble a proper, permanent band proved unsuccessful. Richard’s ambition wasn’t necessarily to be part of a long-term group, but rather to bring his creative ideas to life in a band format. Mike D. (drummer for SAF) and Rogier H. (bassplayer for The Shining), both from bands whose records Richard had released on his own UPS label, agreed to join as part of a temporary project. Subsequently, Edwin D. (bassplayer for SAF) and Mark B. (guitarplayer for The Shining) also came on board, both taking on guitar duties.
Richard already had nearly all the songs mapped out in concept, including both the music and the lyrics. During their rehearsal sessions, these tracks were refined and finalized, and two additional songs were written collaboratively.
Rehearsals took place alternately in Hoorn (at the same space where SAF practiced) and at the Plexat in Heemstede (where Mike D. worked).

In addition to our own set, we played covers by BGK (“Isolatiefolter”) and Attitude Adjustment (“American Paranoia”). The band’s goal was to record and release our songs, play a series of shows, and complete one mini-tour. Once that goal was achieved, the band called it quits. At the time, nearly all the members were also playing in one or more other bands. This chapter came to a close with a farewell show in December 2007. Everyone was satisfied. Richard began spending more and more time in Brazil. Meanwhile, Mike and Edwin had joined a new band, Waking the Dead. The idea arose of ​​a Waking the Dead tour through Brazil. Richard worked on this with Juberto, a Brazilian friend. Eventually the idea came to bring Rupsband out of retirement as well. This resulted in a joint tour featuring both Waking the Dead and Rupsband in 2011. By then, however, Edwin was no longer in Waking the Dead; his successor, Maarten, stepped in as guitarist for Rupsband, while Juberto took over on bass. This lineup existed solely for the duration of the tour; no new songs were written or recorded.

Description: Thrashy Hardcore, Crossover, Thrashcore: drawing influence from 80s bands such as Attitude Adjustment, DRI, Accused, Hard-Ons, Poison Idea, Inferno, Excel, Verbal Abuse, BGK, MDC, Ripcord, Heresy, and Concrete Sox, combined with the speed and rawness of bands from the ‘Dutch Thrash on the Rise’ scene—like Seein’ Red, Mihoen!, BSE, Betercore, Olho de Gato, etc.
