(Heerenveen, 1980–1983)

Meaning Bandname: Sietze Wiegersma thought up the name Malicious Damage. He had picked up this term during an English lesson in the third year of secondary school (= MAVO 3).

Bio: The band was set up in September 1980. The Sex Pistols’ album Never Mind the Bollocks was a catalyst, and the Ramones’ debut album was an eye-opener for Sietze and René. They mastered the songs “Suzy Is a Punk” and “Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World” fairly quickly and unhindered by any prior knowledge. No one had experience with other bands. All members were on the same school and lived in the same street. Practice in a bedroom, a garage and eventually in an old pig barn in the northern part of the city. It was insulated and equipped with a wood stove so it was available for use 24/7. Bands like The Scrunch, Murder Inc. and Spoiled Sperm often dropped by for jam sessions. Mostly while enjoying plenty of beer. Sytze was the best musician of the band and was the driving force behind the songwriting, but ultimately we made it all together. Started with covers from UK Subs, GBH, Sham 69, Ramones, and the Sex Pistols but mainly made own songs through time.

Martin replaced René on guitar. Martin was on the same school and was initially a roadie but played guitar as well.

There was disagreement during the recordings for the album Live in Brouwershoeck about who had been selected and who hadn’t. The Scrunch wasn’t selected, and we didn’t like that.
In a local newspaper they were accused of “fascist behavior” because they were walking around with Dead Kennedys badges.

They did a reunion concert with a different vocalist in 1991.
