INTRODUCTION
I started getting
interested in punk during a concert of a punkband from Rotterdam called
BUNKER who played at an traditional open air festival here in Groningen in
the summer of 1981. I was quite impressed by the energy, style, dancing
and clothing of the people. Alot of those punks also happened to be on my
highschool so that was the start for my involvement. You can read some
sort of review of this gig in the
Bacteria
Newsletter #01. My first records were from the Dead Kennedy’s, Crass,
and old UK punk like UK subs, The Clash… At the Dead Kennedys/MDC/Local
Disturbance concert on the 5th of december 1982 in Amsterdam, I formed my
first band PUINHOOP as a singer. We were totally impressed by M.D.C.
because of its organized musical chaos and diy ethics.
This was the moment for bands to try to play as fast as possible. Together
with LäRM we were one of the few TOTAL chaosbands in Holland in that
period. We joined the local Roodwitzwart federation, which was a
collective of bands and zines focussed on diy ethics and based on
anarchism/communism. PUINHOOP played not so many concerts and never
released anything except songs on compilation tapes. One of them, HOLLAND
HARDCORE 3, has been re-released on LP in 2005. In 1984 I joined BLOEDBAD
as a singer and they were also part of the RWZ collective. Bloedbad played
lots of concerts (with Negazione, Wretched, Declino, Lärm, Pandemonium,
Capital Scum…) and was one of the first bands from Holland together with
Zmiv that started playing hardcore with metal influences. Just before the
European tour the band split up in 1985. Then in 1987 I joined a political
crossoverband called R.O.CONSPIRACY
as a singer. Musically it was very influenced by bands such as Exodus and
Excel. I drummed 1 song for this band, coz I started practising drumming
during breaks on rehearsals. When I played an improvised concert with some
friends in our local squat in July 1988 as a substitute for a band that
didn’t showed up, I was asked by the band
TROFOBLAST
if I would like to come drum for them. Their original drummer Maynard
(also in MUSHROOM
ATTACK) wanted to
sing. He learned me all the songs and we changed the name into CATWEAZLE.
At the end of 1988 R.O.CONSPIRACY
played a farewell concert with the Accüsed in local youthcenter Simplon.
CATWEAZLE
started playing after 1 month of practising and after some member,- and
musical changes, the band ended in july 1999. In the meantime I started
drumming for other
bands such as PCP
(crustycore, since 1997, again replacing the same drummer as in CATWEAZLE),
TUCO RAMIREZ
(grindycore, since 1998) and
SHIKARI
(hardcore, since 1999).
MY
BANDS

PUINHOOP G.Z.U.
(05.12.1982 - 07.1984)
I was
influenced
mostly by the records of DK’s, Crass and Poison Girls. Also the ideas of
the Roodwitzwart collective was a big
inspiration.
PUINHOOP
was a band with anarcho-communist ideas but promoting individualism as
well. The lyrics dealed especially with personal experiences we have
had
with other people and
situations.

BLOEDBAD
(1982 - 1985)
I replace their guitarist/vocalist Edwin in 1984, and play about 1
year with them as a vocalist. BLOEDBAD
was not as political as Puinhoop coz there was more a party-feeling in the
songs, also
covering
some
well-known tunes
like the Dallas theme.
But the band was still very aware and had “political” lyrics more like
Discharge; simple and direct.
R.O.CONSPIRACY
(01.1987 - 11.1988)
Stands for Radical Overthrow Conspiracy and started as INTENSITY.
R.O.Conspiracy was a
radical band. Especially within the crossover scene we had some problems
with our libertarian ideas. Most crossover bands came from the
(rather
conservative/rightwing)
metalscene
and very few bands had their roots in punk/hardcore. We did not exactly
fit in but it was a very interesting experience.

CATWEAZLE
(07.1988 - 10.1998)
My first band
as a drummer.
Catweazle was always very political and put alot of effort in the lyrics
and records. We played alot of benefit concerts and supported many benefit
projects.

PCP
(1996 - 01.2005)
I replace Maynard once again in 1997.
PCP has political lyrics
with emphasis on woman issues (both singers are female).

TUCO RAMIREZ
(1996 - 2000)
I replace Sandor the drummachine in late 1997.
TUCO
RAMIREZ is
much
involved with daily life
and struggles.

SHIKARI
(06.1999 - 05.2005)
SHIKARI developed into a Dutch language hardcoreband with personal and
spiteful political lyrics.

MAKILADORAS
(1999 - 06.2006)
I replace Bart in July 2004. Dutch language metalpunk with an healthy dose
of sarcasm.
